Quick update.
Last week we launched our new Substack, Permission to Chill. We made the kick-off article public: Losing It? Start here.
Giving ourselves Permission to Chill isn’t obvious. It sounds extra, but what I’m about to share is the most crucial teaching I can lay on you. Times are unsettling. It’s time to chill. ⏸️
I am full-blown obsessing over the science (and art) of slowing down to speed up. Turns out there’s a lot of art, and science. Links below.
Practice, not tactics.
In 2016 I started rebuilding my income from $0 after losing my job, while buying and renovating a dream home. It took six years, but in 2022 I exceeded my highest earning year from corporate. I hit $450K.
The numbers don’t matter. You can either say “that’s all?!” Or, “dang, fella!” It was a milestone for me. The milestone wasn’t built with tactics. No proven formulas, or marketing hacks. I just did what I know how to do. I practiced my ass off. I was deeply into my coaching practice, paid speaking around my first book, and (hopefully) improving my writing.
But before and after the long work days, I was meditating about an hour. As we strengthen our meta-attention, new levels of focus and inspiration open up. We start operating from Right Action, versus action for action’s sake.
That’s really where Permission to Chill was born. For the love of practice itself. I told our kid as she was going pro as a recording artist at 14: “When you fall in love with practicing, everything gets easier and work becomes joy. You’ll stand out, and people take notice.”
I’m taking it back to the basics, making my business and my life a practice I love. Let’s do it together, by slowing down to speed up. ⏸️ 📈
New Resources on Substack
Science of Chill - Research + neuroscience for the head. 🧠
Art of Chill - Immersive audio, music for the heart. ❤️
Next Community Class - Third Thursday each month. Next: 4/17

Last week’s video interview with Sacred Business Stories. I go through the agony and ecstasy of working from purpose, and surprise them with debuting a song I wrote in India, ‘River of Light’
First, we practice.
Then we build community— with purpose, and joy.
Breathe. There’s time. Permission to Chill.

PS. I’m so excited to reconnect. What are you working on, and/or excited about? Lots of work travel coming up, but I’m reemerging with India in my heart. I have also perfected the oat milk chai latte 👌🏽. The kids and I get hype, then talk trash during MarioKart.
Appreciate the reminder after a day that was full of being in the mental weeds and not loving practice for practice’s sake.
Slowing down to speed up - I think that's the philosophy that this world needs going forward! I keep coming back to that in almost all trainings I do with leaders. Love your publication title, by the way, Kris.
